Red Bull New York announced today that it has acquired midfielder Santino Quaranta from the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for a conditional fourth round pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft.

"We are extremely excited about having a player like Santino Quaranta who has so much experience in this league and at the international level at such a young age," said Red Bull New York Technical Director Jeff Agoos. "We believe Santino will be able to help us in a number of different positions and we look forward to his contributions."

At 22 years of age, Quaranta already has six years of MLS experience under his belt. The U.S. International from Baltimore, Maryland has appeared in six games for the Galaxy in 2007, starting in three. After being acquired last season by Los Angeles from D.C. United in exchange for a partial allocation and a conditional 2008 MLS SuperDraft pick on August 8, Quaranta scored two goals in his first three games for the Galaxy.

At United, Quaranta appeared in 62 games with 42 starts, registering 17 goals and 13 assists. His best season statistically came in 2005, where he tied his career high in goals (5) and set new personal marks in assists (5), games played (18) and games started (13). Quaranta's play that season earned him a call up to the U.S. National Team for the Gold Cup and World Cup qualifying matches. The 6-1, 185-pound midfielder has notched 11 caps for the U.S., making three starts. He tallied an assist in his full National Team debut on July 7, 2005 in a 4-1 win over Cuba in the Gold Cup.

Quaranta was once the youngest player to play in a MLS game (16 years, 207 days), score a goal (16 years, 217 days) and be drafted in the MLS after D.C. took him in the first round (8th overall) of 2001 MLS SuperDraft (16 years, 105 days). He got off to a quick start after scoring five goals and one assist in 16 games and was named to the MLS All-Star Team.
